Here some suggested itineraries so you and your family can make the very best of the 2015 Bristol Family Arts Festival by spending a whole day exploring some of the activities and events on offer in different parts of the city.

Suggested activities all suitable for families with children aged 8+ good for kids interested in video games, conservation, nature and the world of TV!
OLD CITY AND HARBOURSIDE
10am – 6pm the Cardboard Arcade Bristol Old Vic FREE
11am – 4pm Nature Camera Action Discovery Day M Shed FREE
12:30pm Conservation in Action Brunel’s ss Great Britain FREE
5pm Game Bristol Old Vic £12 Adults/£8 Concessions and Children (Plus Booking Fee)
10am start your day in one of the oldest parts of Bristol, exploring the Cardboard Arcade at Bristol Old Vic. Then you might like to take a leisurely stroll along the harbour side (or perhaps a ferry?) to go and see some Conservation in Action at the SS Great Britain at 12:30pm. If you still have energy to spare, walk back along the water to the M Shed for Nature Camera Action from 11am – 4pm and then head back to the Old Vic for some Circus-Theatre fun (and a much needed sit down!) at 5pm. All finished by 6:30! There are loads of tasty treats from every corner of the globe to be had at St Nicholas Markets in the old city. You can also find great food along the waterfront or take a picnic. If the weather is fine, there will be plenty of lovely spots to munch along the way, but watch out for the sneaky seagulls!

Suggested activities all suitable for families with children aged 5+ great for active families and children interested in how things work, transport (you may spot boats, trains, cranes, buses and bikes!), history and storytelling!
SPIKE ISLAND AND HARBOURSIDE
11am – 3pm Build a Power House Underfall Boat Yard FREE
Time TBC - Bedtime Stories Show Arnolfini £13/£9
Explore Bristol’s maritime and industrial heritage with a visit to one of the cities previously unsung historic heroes, soon to be home to a brand new visitor attraction, the Underfall Boat Yard! Get creative, inventing, designing and making your own power house designs. Then wander, cycle or sail back towards the centre, taking in the sights along the way, including the SS Great Britain, the Bristol Packet, Bristol Harbour Railway, the Matthew and the M Shed! A quick hop across the river will take you back to the Arnolfini in time for some snuggly buggly bedtime stories! You can find great food along the waterfront or take a picnic. Bike mad families might want to pay a visit to the Mud Dock Cycle works and Café.

Park walks and play at Greville
Smyth Park, Ashton Court Estate and Leigh Woods
Fancy a fun day out south of the
river? Come and get crafty at the Tobacco Factory and then enjoy a fabulous
playful puppet show! You could combine this with some time outside exploring
the lovely Greville Smyth Park or café hop along the vibrant North Street. If
you fancied exploring a little further afield you could travel west to the
Ashton Court Estate where you can see all sorts of beautiful wildlife including
the estates deer and enjoy rambling walks if it is fine and kite flying if it
is windy! Travel further north and you will reach Leigh Woods National Nature
Reserve where they have Family Den Building Workshops running at 10am, 12pm and
2pm. Under 4s can attend for FREE all other tickets are £3.50 and must be
booked in advance.

Come and get arty with The Big
Draw and explore skeletons through songs, stories, drawing and making. There is
loads to see and do at Bristol Museum and Park Street offers a wide range of
chain and independent shops to explore including some great eateries,
especially the hidden cafes at Bristol Guild and the Folk House. Need some
outdoor play time? Check out the great play areas and Nature Park at Brandon
Hill. If you are feeling energetic you could even climb Cabot Tower for some
fantastic views of the city. Then head down to the Watershed for some movie
magic or for something a little different, pop along to St George’s Bristol to
hear clarinettist Peter Cigleris play music by Bax, Schumann and Brahms.

2pm – 6pm Uncover Mysterious Medieval Bristol St John the Baptist Church FREE, Donations Welcomed
Spend a morning exploring the
attractions of Bristol’s vibrant harbourside, then pop into the Architecture
Centre to build your own ‘Grand Design’ ‘snug’ home, before travelling back in
time to medieval Bristol at the historic St John the Baptist on Broad Street,
built into the city wall in the 14th century! And all for FREE!
